Online banking report shows consumer searches

New research has found that consumer online searches are focusing most on both mortgages and loans . It was found that 61 per cent of the 2 million consumer searches made in the UK in October for retail banking -related services were for these terms.

They study, by Greenlight, revealed the most popular search terms used by consumers to find providers of bank accounts, credit and debit cards, mortgages and loans. It found that searches for loans keywords proved to be the most popular, amounting to about a third of all searches for retail banking products, with mortgages coming next with 28 per cent, followed by bank accounts with 24 per cent and credit cards with 16 per cent.

The research also showed that the term ' mortgage calculator ' was used for searches 135,000 times in the month, which was 7 per cent of all retail banking-related searches and 24 per cent of specific mortgage-related searches. Halifax was reported to be the best performing direct provider, ranking in first for 14 of the keywords examined, as well as fifth for the term 'mortgage calculator'.

Regarding social media interaction with brands, the report looked at the Twitter and Facebook accounts of the top 15 brands in its league table of the most visible websites in both natural and paid searches, investigating the number of tweets and posts produced for consumers to interact with in the month.
