Researchers from Cambridge University have published the results of a study linking a banking crisis and heart disease . The findings show that a banking crisis brings about a significant increase in deaths from heart disease, with economically developed countries such as the UK likely to see a 6.4 per cent rise, whilst less economically developed countries could see fatalities of this kind rise by as much as 26 per cent.
The study suggests that a banking crisis would result in between 1,280 and 5,130 extra deaths as a result of heart disease in the UK alone. The elderly are said to be most at danger given the extra stress that accompanies the danger to their savings .
The findings of the survey are based on data from the World Bank and the World Health Organisation between 1960 and 2002. The study is particularly worrying given the current global banking crisis.
