A new virtual banking study has revealed that more than half of young people would be willing to use their mobiles to check how much money they have.
In a survey of banking customers from financial services provider Alliance & Leicester Current Accounts, it has been discovered that 54 per cent of people aged between 16 and 21 years old would be open to the possibility of checking their bank balance on a handset.
Meanwhile, 38 per cent of respondents would be willing to view mini statements on their mobile, while 44 per cent have not ruled out the possibility of checking their balance immediately prior to making a purchase.
Helen Palmer, current accounts manager at Alliance & Leicester, has remarked that mobiles could potentially boost public acceptance of virtual banking services.
"Mobile phones have fast become a central tool in everyone's day-to-day lives and being able to use them for extended services like managing your finances will be extremely convenient for very many people," she said.
Certain financial services providers already offer virtual banking access to people with internet-enabled mobile phones.
