Financial services provider unveils online banking element for student account

Wed, 20 Jun 2007

Students may be interested to know that a financial services provider has launched a new tailored banking service that includes provision for online banking.

The new student account offering from Lloyds TSB Scotland gives consumers the opportunity to try out virtual banking services over the internet or via a mobile.

Moreover, successful applicants will receive free insurance cover for their mobile, as well as an invitation to apply for a specialist student credit card.

And students can opt to receive weekly balance status updates via their mobiles.

Lisa Stephenson, director of marketing at the financial services provider, has commented on the need for students to find an appropriate banking service.

"Starting at university is an exciting time but for many it is also the first time students have had to think about managing their own money," she said.

"Selecting the right student account is essential."

Many financial services providers have offered incentives in the past to encourage students to join.

These include no-strings-attached £60 lump sums, preferential-rate credit cards, complimentary sandwich toasters and free railcards.
