More and more bank customers manage their accounts online. The result is a new email scam that enables fraudsters to steal such customer’s cash.
The way the con works is that an initial message is sent designed to look exactly like your own bank. This content of the email advises you of fraudulent emails and not to follow the instructions contained within them.
This gives the scam email and air of legitimacy. The new email contains a link to what looks like the genuine banks website and requires you to input your personal details.
What you don’t know is that the site is in fact run by criminals and has nothing to do with the bank itself. The criminals will use the information to empty funds from the victims’ accounts.
According to all the major banks in the UK, they would never ask for private customer information via an email. They say that customers should log onto their internet accounts by typing in the bank’s web address (URL) themselves and not by clicking on a link within an email.
