Free online banking and phone banking services will be offered to HSBC BusinessDirect customers from April.
"The idea that one type of banking fits all customers simply does not reflect the reality of modern Britain," comments Alan Keir, the head of commercial banking at HSBC.
These free banking services are aimed at the 1.7 million smaller firms that do not handle cash and rarely use cheques.
Where businesses do not want or need to use bank branches, HSBC believes they should not have to pay for it, Mr Keir continues.
"With 51 per cent of our customers already banking online, the demand for this kind of service is clear," he states.
Firms making use of this online banking service will be able to access banking advice via the internet.
The HSBC business banking website already offers a variety of free economic reports, fact sheets and guides.
HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with services in 77 countries.
It provides a comprehensive range of financial services including mortgages, savings, investments, loans and online banking.
