Online banking customers of Egg will soon be able to check their finances from the convenience of their phone.
From the beginning of October O2 and Egg online banking customers will be able to check their balances and transactions through i-mode compatible phones.
This launch follows research that found half of banking customers would like to access their banking services securely through their mobile phones.
Some 25 per cent of Egg online banking customers are subscribed to the O2 mobile network.
The banking service will be completely free, with current users only needing their normal Egg online banking logins to access the banking service.
Grahame Riddell, head of i-mode marketing for O2, said: "We are delighted to have joined forces to offer mobile internet banking with such a pioneering and innovative brand such as Egg.
"This reinforces our desire to provide customers with the highest quality on line content straight to their mobile," he continued.
The group is the first UK banking institution to launch the mobile banking service.
The announcement comes as LINK, the cash machine network, plans to roll out mobileATM, a mobile system designed to give customers secure control over their finances.
