Lloyds TSB urges customers to tighten online security

With online fraud on the rise, Lloyds TSB is warning its customers to maximise security on their home computers.

Internet banking has become increasingly popular, but with international phishing and identity theft scams becoming more and more common, it is vital users keep their PCs secure.

According to research by Lloyds TSB, more than half of all PCs and laptops have been infected by computer viruses.

It found that three-quarters of computer users say they are worried about virus threats, even though 10 per cent have never updated their anti-virus software.

"At Lloyds TSB, we use the highest levels of industry-standard security so customers can access their accounts online with the utmost confidence," explained the internet banking director at Lloyds TSB, Matthew Timms.

"But while we are doing everything we can to make our security watertight, we also urge all of our customers to think carefully about the measures they have taken to protect their PC."

He added that internet users should regularly update anti-virus software and make sure they install a robust firewall for added protection.

Customers with no or little PC security say the reasons behind the problem are either the cost of the anti-virus software or a simple lack of knowledge about how to make computers safe.
