Santander has announced the launch of two new current account products which the bank says will provide consumers with simpler overdraft charges .
The Preferred Current Account offers a five per cent in-credit interest rate on balances of up to £2,500, with a free overdraft arranged for the first year. The Financier's Everyday Current Account is described as a simple and straightforward option which consumers will find easy to comprehend and doesn't have any minimum monthly credit requirement.
Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, Santander's director of banking, said: "The launch of these two new accounts marks a pivotal moment in Santander's ongoing aim to provide easy to understand current accounts for a wide range of people and to simplify overdraft charging."
Santander has recently introduced a cash Isa with an interest rate of 3.3 per cent which is available to both new and existing customers. In addition, it is to reduce the interest rate on one of its four-year fixed rate mortgage deals.
