Lloyds TSB has unveiled a new service allowing customers to transfer money via their mobile phones . Whilst several banks offer banking services on customers’ mobile phones, this is the first time that customers will be able to transfer funds between their accounts on their mobile handsets . The service also alerts account holders when their credit or debit cards are use abroad, whilst customers will also be able to check their bank balance, their last six transactions and top up pay as you go mobile phones.
The service adds to the numerous functions that Lloyds TSB customers are already able to perform via their mobile phones, including subscribing to text alerts if they do not have enough money to cover a direct debit or standing order, or if their bank balance falls within £50 of their limit.
The service is free for fee paying Premier and Private Banking Premier account holders, and is free for student account holders until October 2009. Other customers face a £2.50 monthly charge if they wish to use the service.
Lloyds TSB’s Director of Current Accounts, Catherine McGrath, said, ‘Technology is evolving at lightning speed and with these changes come new demands from our customers and new possibilities for products and services to meet their needs. Just as internet banking has taken the country by storm over the past decade, mobile banking is now set to change the way we manage our money’.
