Web browsers who have a profile on social networking portal MySpace have been told they could help disadvantaged children by befriending a financial services provider.
The Co-operative Bank has just announced a new initiative that will see 20p donated to The Children's Society every time a web browser adds the banking institution to their list of friends.
These donations will be made until the banking institution hits 10,000 friendship requests - meaning a total of £2,000 could be raised for the children's support organisation.
David Newman, marketing director at The Co-operative Bank, explained how the move was in keeping with its corporate social responsibility aims.
"MySpace is rapidly becoming a 'green' networking place," he said.
"The donation to The Children's Society for new 'green' friends ensures that we continue our ethos of being 'good with money'."
Meanwhile, visitors to the banking institution's profile will be invited to explore a range of green features onsite such as a CO2 calendar and a regular climate change poll.
Last year, Co-operative Insurance Society announced the launch of a new financing product that it claimed was the first green car insurance policy in the UK.
