Online banking is soaring in popularity, with 80 per cent of Britons saying they are fairly confident using the online banking facilities offered by their bank of financial institution.
A fifth of online banking customers said their confidence in the safety of online banking had improved significantly over the last 18 months, Lloyds TSB Internet Banking found.
Online banking customers between the ages of 25 and 34 are most comfortable with online banking, with those over 55 showing the least confidence.
It seems like men are the most confident online banking customers, with 84 per cent saying they are very confident managing their finances through online banking, compared to 76 per cent of women.
According to Lloyds TSB's Matthew Timms, the internet and ATM director, many people used to think that online banking was something only for the hi-tech generation.
The bank's online banking facility now has 1.8 million regular users. Mr Timms noted that there has been a 60 per cent increase in the number of transactions undertaken by customers through online banking."
Online banking customers' increased understanding of the importance of keeping passwords and personal information safe, has been a major factor in the growth in trust in online banking.
"Even though people might be worried about things like phishing scams, its great that so many internet users feel safe and secure banking online and were keen to keep it this way," Mr Timms commented.
